Under his leadership, Gmelich was able to hold its ground in difficult economic times and achieve important milestones. We wish him all the best for his personal future.
At the same time, we are pleased to announce the appointment of our new CEO. Mr. Christian Mayer will succeed Mr. Wiesner as of April 1, 2024.

Großbottwar - The leather manufacturer Gmelich + Söhne is celebrating its 100th anniversary in June of this year. To mark the occasion, new flags have been hoisted on the company's premises in Großbottwar. The company's logo has been graphically modernized. Over the past few years, the medium-sized company has developed into one of the most important players in the regional economy. A success story that continues to this day began with its foundation 100 years ago. The company with a long tradition is known for its high-quality leather products and its outstanding craftsmanship. The new flags are meant to symbolize the company's innovative and future-oriented approach. "We are proud of our history and tradition, yet open to new developments and innovations," says Christian Wiesner, CEO of Gmelich + Söhne.
The Stuttgart Region Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) has awarded the leather manufacturer Gmelich + Söhne in Großbottwar a certificate of honor on the occasion of the company's 100th anniversary. With this award, the Chamber of Commerce recognizes the outstanding achievements of the company for the benefit of the local economy. The IHK thanks the company for its tireless commitment and outstanding achievements. The company has made a significant contribution to the success of the region. The certificate of honor was presented on May 24 by Prof. Dr. Stefan Mecheels (left) - CEO of the testing service provider Hohenstein, Bönnigheim) and Reiner Boucsein (right) - Deputy Managing Director of the IHK Region Stuttgart, Ludwigsburg District Chamber. The award was accepted by Mr. Christian Wiesner, Managing Director of the Gmelich + Söhne company.
As part of the redesign of Gmelich + Söhne GmbH's new logo development, a careful balance had to be struck between preserving the positive aspects and making forward-looking changes.
The previous logo presented us with a cheeky looking cow holding a piece of leather in its hooves. Although likeable, the cow no longer seemed appropriate for an internationally respected leather goods company. The decision was therefore made to say goodbye to this motif.
On the other hand, the timeless simplicity of the "gmelich leder" lettering was retained. However, the graphics have been made to be more compact. The word "leather" is now in place of a symbolic leather pictogram. The "gmelich" name is given a subtle softness that fits well with the gmelich leather product line by slightly rounding the corners.
Annual CO2 savings of 700,000 kg: Award for biogas plant - Leather waste becomes bioenergy: In a joint project with Fink Energie GmbH & Co KG, our production's glue leather, previously disposed of as waste in Holland, is converted into bioenergy and the heat is piped back into production. This saves 80,000 km of truck transportation and generates an additional 2 million KW of heat, which is the equivalent of 200,000 liters of heating oil. Efficient, green, sustainable! This project has now been awarded the "Plant of the Month" prize by the German Biogas Association (Fachverband Biogas e.V.)
